Historical Tours
Join a historian for a guided tour as we begin at beautiful Amelia Court House where the guide will offer a brief orientation and review the itinerary for the tour. Just as the Union and Confederate forces did in April 1865, the drive will head to Amelia Springs for a brief stop at Flatt Creek. A short drive down a paved road today, one can imagine the sights and sounds of the retreating and chasing columns as they snaked their way around the countryside. Stopping at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Visitor Center, guests will have the opportunity to explore the museum and exhibits on display. From there we will proceed to Appomattox Court House where we will see the National Park Visitor Center and museum/film and take a stroll over to the McLean house where General Lee surrendered to General Grant on April 9, 1865. Learn about the paroles and what challenges lie ahead for the soldiers going home from both armies.
