Preservation Efforts

Since its inception in 2022, the Appomattox-Petersburg Preservation Society has sought to preserve vestiges of our nation's past for future generations to come. These efforts include:

  • Truely Vaughan House

Union field hospital following the Battles of Sailor's Creek where original wartime graffiti was discovered.

  • Appomattox Station Battlefield

Stewardship of one of the more oft-overlooked battlefields of the Appomattox Campaign.

  • Cumberland Church Battlefield

Site of the last victory of the Army of Northern Virginia on April 7, 1865, just days before the fateful surrender.

  • Guided Battlefield Tours

APPS' team of historians and interpreters transport guests back to war-torn South Central Virginia and recount in vivid detail the events of those tumultuous years and the people who were shaped by them.

  • Speaking Engagements

From seminars to Civil War Roundtables, to private events, APPS takes the stories from the battlefield and the home front directly to the public.
